Description
My Window View. Life in the desert is difficult at best. Can you imagine living in the desert and having views such as this right through your window. Who needs art hanging on the walls when you can just look out your window.
This wall and window is from a structure in ruins at the Mariscal Mining Community in Big Bend National Park, Texas. The Mariscal Mine once bustled as the center of the Big Bend quicksilver mining economy. Visiting the ruins, one can get a feeling for the work of these early pioneers and their contributions to Big Bend's rich human history. The remains of the mine and remnants of the community stand today as a symbol of a time when "quicksilver was king" and as a vivid reminder of the cycle of human activities and nature's reclamation.
