Description

This is the view from Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, Texas. The US is on the left and just a few yards through the Rio Grande River is the Mexican border. The hiking trail to Santa Elena crosses Terlingua Creek, climbs several switchbacks and stairs and then descends into the canyon along the Rio Grande. At this point the canyon walls loom over 1500 feet above the river below.

To me, this view embodies the spirit of Big Bend - cactus, desert, river, lush green foilage, trees, mountains, 2 countries, big sky, canyons. So much happening all in one fantastic view. See Santa Elena Canyon in my portfolio for a black/white version of this image.
