Description

The glorious sunset highlights Cerro Castellan in Big Bend National Park, Texas. This butte, in the Chihuahuan Desert, is a high stack of volcanic rocks, including ash, lava, and tuffaceous rocks. The layers visible in Cerro Castellan reveal millions of years of volcanic events.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote "Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn.". I have spent many hours in the desert waiting for the colors of sunrise or sunset to reveal a true beauty in our miraculous world. Sometimes it's just an exercise in patience but it's all worthwhile when you are rewarded with a spectacular show announcing the promise of a new dawn.
