Description
Life on the Border. This is a view from the Dorgan-Sublett Trail in Bend Big Bend National Park, Texas, along the border of the United States and Mexico. The Dorgan and Sublett families bought 640 acres here in the early 1900's and developed an extensive irrigated farming project along the Rio Grande floodplain. From this vantage you can see Santa Elena Canyon.
Try to imagine life here in the Chihuahuan Desert in the 1900's with no modern amenities, no running water, no electricity and then add to that the rigors of farming in the desert. Daily life was difficult with little rewards. Could you have withstood the rigors of Life on the border in a desert town?
