Description
Difficult to navigate to but well worth the troubles to discover and explore the ruins of Mariscal Mine deep into Big Bend National Park, Texas. Much of the complex is still standing. The Mariscal Mine was once a thriving source of cinnabar ore that was refined onsite into mercury. There are signs all around the ruins warning visitors not to touch the toxic mercury laden bricks scattered around the ruins. The Mariscal Mine is the best preserved mercury mining site in the state of Texas, and is a listed historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.
