Description
This rock formation, illuminated by early morning light, in the Grapevine Hills of Big Bend National Park immediately intrigued me. Check out the waves in the formation radiating out from the middle as waves in a pond after a rock had been thrown in the water. What forces of nature caused this formation?
This rock formation can be found at the end of a 7 mile dirt road to Grapevine Hills in Big Bend National Park, Texas within the Chihuahuan Desert. A fairly short and mostly easy 2.2 miles round-trip hike brings you to the base of Balanced Rock. This particular formation is in the nearby rock formations surrounding the more famous Balanced Rock. It was very much worth the effort to witness a glorious sunrise and watch the light on the formation change as the sun rose higher in the sky.
