The word hoodoo means to bewitch. A sacred oral tradition of the Paiute Indians states that the hoodoos are ancient legend people turned into stone by coyote as a punishment for bad deeds.
The Bisti Wilderness comprise 45,000 acres filled with crazy rock formations that resemble everything from spacecraft to sharks to manta rays to alien eggs. As this is a true wilderness area, there are no trails and no vehicles are allowed either. The only way to see it is to walk on in and start exploring.
