Description
The Bisti Wilderness outside Farmington, New Mexico transport all who visit into an alien-like landscape. This image is from the Vanilla Hoodoos within the Bisti Wilderness. Can you imaging living in this area? Was it as alien to the original people living in this area as it seems to be as a visitor.
The word hoodoo means to bewitch. A sacred oral tradition of the Paiute Indians states that the hoodoos are ancient legend people turned into stone by coyote as a punishment for bad deeds.
The Bisti Wilderness comprise 45,000 acres filled with crazy rock formations that resemble everything from spacecraft to sharks to manta rays to alien eggs. As this is a true wilderness area, there are no trails and no vehicles are allowed either. The only way to see it is to walk on in and start exploring. This place is unique not only in the alien landscape but also because there are no trails. You are free to wander at will and just explore what nature has presented to you. You will not be able to keep on a pre-planned route in this wilderness.
