Description
The Navajo people call Monument Valley "Tse Bii Ndzisgail" - Valley of the Rocks. Visiting Monument Valley, located on Navajo Tribal Lands on the Utah and Arizona borders, is like taking a step back in time. While this composition is beautiful in color, I converted it to black and white to better convey the feeling that I experienced of being in an old western movie. I closed my eyes and imagined what it must have been like to explore this area riding a horse in the 1800's with all my possessions in my saddlebag.
In this image, you can see the sandstone formations of the East Mitten, West Mitten, and Merrick Butte. Monument Valley is known as the sacred heart of the Navajo Nation. The Navajo people believe that each of the buttes and mesas have a heartbeat.
