Description
Standing a few hundred yards into the Badlands wilderness from Badlands Overlook in Badlands National Park, South Dakota, I experienced a feeling of utter desolation brought on by the pre-dawn light and the endless wilderness around me. Standing here was desolation at its truest, where you can look for miles and see no sign of civilization and on this particular morning, no sounds of life either.
You can see Stronghold Table in the distance. Stronghold Table, a 3-mile-long plateau, can be reached only by crossing a narrow land bridge just wide enough to let a wagon pass.
